Abstract:
YouTube is a social networking website that functions as a video-sharing platform and is widely used by people nowadays. This study was carried out to find out the students' perception of the English Language Education Study Program at Lambung Mangkurat University Banjarmasin.
In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative as the research design to determine the students’ perceptions of the use of YouTube for learning English. The instruments of this research were questionnaires and interviews.
The result of data analysis shows that most students gave a positive response to the positive and negative statements of questionnaires provided. Based on the research results obtained, this study can be concluded that the use of YouTube as an online English learning medium is attractive, effective, and relevant to the course content. It also motivates students to learn English. This also means that YouTube as media in learning English as a foreign language developed their Autonomous learners to improve their language skills and language components.
Therefore, the teachers are expected to use other language learning media besides using YouTube. Using YouTube as a media is one of the suitable methods that help students learn speaking quickly and gave them a lot of vocabulary. And it is also suggested that further researchers conduct a study about another perception, such as teachers' perception using YouTube as a media for language learning, in other learning subjects. The researcher believes that there are still many phenomena that can be revealed in this research study.
