The objective of the study is to determine whether the contents in
the textbook “Bahasa Inggris” consist of character-building values
determined by the Ministry of Education and Culture. In this study,
descriptive qualitative used by the researcher as approach method. The
subject of the research is textbook entitled ‘Bahasa Inggris’.
The research results showed that character-building values can be
found in the dialogue text of the textbook “Bahasa Inggris.” There are 17
values found in 11 dialogue texts of the textbook with 9 of 18 character-
building values appearances, namely honest, hard working, creative,
curiosity, spirit of nationalism, patriotism, friendly/communicative,
environmental awareness and responsibility. In this research, the researcher
noticed that the value that appeared the most was friendly/communicative (5)
because the greeting is consistently used at the beginning of the dialogue.
Since the purpose of the character-building education is to strengthen
character-building among students, the role of the teacher will be crucial to
guide the students in the process, it suggested for the teacher to give a hint or
directly explains the points of the character values so that it is easier for
students to absorb.
