English has an important role in our academic life. This study aims to find out the problems in Online-Based English Teaching at SMPN 1 Banjarmasin during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive approach. The subject of this study was an eighth grade English teacher. Researchers used questionnaires and interviews.
The teacher's response in the questionnaire shows that teachers experience problems in online learning. Some of these problems are the lack of mastery of teachers and students on technology, weak signals, decreased student motivation, and decreased student grades. The results of interviews with English teachers show that the main problem is a weak signal in online learning.
Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that subjects use written media in the form of PDF so that students can use it as teaching material and students can focus more on learning, not be distracted by online games and youtube. Just by holding the physical paper, learning becomes full concentration. Dab for English teachers at SMPN 1 Banjarmasin makes videos by uploading them to Youtube to help students better understand and overcome teacher problems in online-based English learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially student motivation problems.
