Many Indonesian texts such as magazines are translated into English, and vice-versa. One of them is Tempo magazine, published in Indonesia. Some translation work has been conducted in this magazine which investigated method and linguistic aspects. However, little has been explored in the area of the technique used. It is essential to examine how the translator translates this type of text to find the pattern applied. Therefore to fill this void, this research aims at describing the techniques using theory grounded by Molina and Albir of Tempo Magazine translation.
This research is Mix method (Qualitative and Quantitative) research. The object of this research is the headlines section of the weekly magazine entitled Tempo in the late August 2020 edition by PT Tempo Inti Media. The data consisted of 39 paragraphs in 2 articles in the headlines section of Tempo magazine, and the total number of data is 373 obtained by reading the magazine, identifying, classifying the technique, analyzing the data, and making a conclusion.
The finding of the research shows that there are 14 translation techniques found in the data, namely adaptation, amplication, borrowing, calque, compensation, description, discursive creation, established equivalent, literal translation, modulation, particularization, reduction, variation, and generalization. The literal translation becomes the most used technique, while the less used is particularization. It is suggested that future researchers conduct further analysis through the translation technique in another weekly magazine or source data.
