Abstract:
Due to the trend, many teachers apply a student centered learning approach in class. This is implemented to encourage students’ participation, in addition to teaching them about responsibility. Thus, some teachers use flipped material methods. Briefly explained, flipped material is when the teacher gave the material before the class began. While during face-to-face sessions, the time is allocated more to the students’ activities. However, flipped material is not widely implemented in Kalimantan Selatan, only in LB LIA Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru English courses. This research was done to understand more on the implementation of flipped material in the classroom.
The research was conducted by qualitative approach to gather richer information. The subjects were the teacher and students of LB LIA Banjarbaru English course. The data was obtained by doing observations during the class and interviewing both teacher and the students.
According to the research, the students need to finish the flipped material before the class begins. The teacher checks the result of the material as well as discusses it briefly. Those who did not finish would be told to do their material first before joining the rest of the students. The students were given activities among themselves. At the end of the class, the teacher gave them feedback for their performances.
In conclusion, I believe that the flipped material can be one of many teaching options done in the classroom. Since it saves time and supports the students to be active in the classroom. Hopefully, the research can inspire and give enough information related to flipped material research.
