Sarjana's thesis is a final project written by students as part of the requirements of academic education in universities. Sarjana's thesis is used as a prerequisite by students to obtain an undergraduate degree. This research was conducted to find students' problems in writing sarjana's thesis. Moreover, to know what are the causes of those difficulties.
This research used a qualitative approach. The design of this research was descriptive. This research was conducted at Lambung Mangkurat University. The researcher decided to investigate students who have taken sarjana's thesis from the Teacher Training and Education Faculty of English Language Education. There were eight students. In this research, the instrument used to collect the data was an interview. The collected data was analyzed by reducing the data, presenting the data, taking the conclusion, or verifying.
Based on the result of the research, there could be some problems and causes that make it difficult for students to write their Sarjana's thesis. That problem comes from students' psychological aspects, such as self-esteem, inhibition, anxiety, and motivation. Moreover, students' linguistic aspects include identifying and formulating grammatical errors and paraphrasing sentences. The sociocultural aspect is the social distance between undergraduate students with their tutors and social distance among undergraduate students. The researcher found that the causes of those problems were students' lack of resources, personalities, and thoughts due to many ideas in writing, confusion, identifying, formulating, and having social distance among undergraduate students and tutors. Therefore, it is concluded that the students’ of the English Language Education Study Program at Lambung Mangkurat University have problems in Psychological (Self-Esteem, inhibition, motivation and anxiety), Linguistic (paraphrasing the sentence and minimalizing grammar error) and Sociocultural (Social distance between students and the supervisor). Those are becoming inhibition for them to write Sarjana’s thesis.
